My grasp of human psyche
“Al-Khufous”: When Depression Spoke Before I Could Name It,
After visiting over 30 cities across Saudi Arabia, I immersed myself in people and their worlds
In this episode, I share how my understanding of the human psyche was shaped—
I shared emotions I couldn’t name for 30 years—calling them al-Khufous, an Arabic word for a hole in the ground.
During 22 days in an airport residence, that darkness began to make sense. Since then, many have told me they use al-Khufous to describe their own depression.
This episode explores how that journey reshaped my understanding of meaning, connection, and humanity—after traveling over 15,000 kilometers and staying in 40 homes of kind strangers who welcomed me in. I learned wisdom, calm, and a quiet sense of contentment.
After years of speaking with thousands of people who called my number on Twitter, I share in this episode a distilled perspective on the human psyche—shaped by my story, their stories, and the quiet insights in between.
I shared how this belief became my anchor, and how everything else — including rizq — follows from that center. I also introduced my four-layered view on choosing a profession with depth and clarity.

We talked about why exams create an illusion of knowledge, how the education system failed our questions, and how I found purpose through reflection, not performance. Explored how relationships and work intersect, the spiritual roots of career choices, and how marriage, not money, can bring Rizq.
I found myself in a quiet storm of emotions I couldn’t name. I spoke in this episode about what it means to let grief take its time—without forcing acceptance, or rushing healing. I explored the five stages of grief, the idea of honoring parents as a practiced skill, and how memory becomes a soft echo that never leaves
